2020 Presidential Hopeful Lists $25 Million Maui Estate With Its Own Waterfall
A one-of-a-kind estate on the north shore of Maui that is owned by a 2020 presidential hopeful is on the market for $25 million. A world-class jungle paradise estate, it is bordered by exquisite Hawaii conservation land and is the ideal home for anyone seeking privacy and security. The property is much like a five star eco resort with its stunning views and luxurious accommodations.
Owned by entrepreneur and philanthropist, Hart Cunningham, a Democratic candidate who has already launched his 2020 campaign (see link here), the property consists of nearly 2.2 acres of uniquely designed and developed land in Haiku. There are a total of five bedrooms and four bathrooms located across multiple buildings. The property is offered furnished.
The estate, which is a one-of-a-kind and extremely private, includes a 250-foot waterfall and jungle ravine surroundings that are topped by the unobstructed views of the Keanae Peninsula, Hana, Haleakala, and Pacific Ocean. The architect of the property was Durwin A Kiyabu, AIA of Nishikawa Architects, Inc., an award-winning architectural firm based in Maui, while the project manager was David “Paco” Perez. The property is represented by Josh Jerman, Realtor with Hawai’i Life, one of the top ranked Realtors in the state of Hawaii.
The property features multiple structures including a three-bedroom main house, there is a peninsula cottage, yoga studio, study and second story lanai perching over Hanehoi stream.
Other amenities include a professional yoga studio, Trex deck discovery trail, built-in BBQ outdoor kitchen, learning center with spa, exotic bird atrium, butterfly conservatory, seven separate fenced animal sanctuaries, and herb greenhouse. There are more than 70 varieties of organic produce growing on the property. The estate has premier security and unequaled privacy behind the safety of custom entry gates and fenced property lines.
Located on the famous Door of Faith Road, the estate is a 20-mile scenic drive with ocean and jungle views from Kahului Airport and only 25 minutes from central Paia Town’s many shops, restaurants and banking. On route, is the world renowned “Mama’s Fish Market” restaurant and Ho’okipa Beach, famous for surfing, kiting, sailboarding and the many green sea turtles that frequent its shores.
Once you enter the custom stainless steel and exotic Bangkirai hardwood gates, which are guarded by an eight-foot-long bronze dragon, you will be greeted by an impressive stone Buddha. An elegant stamped concrete driveway will take you beyond a rainbow eucalyptus tree garden and covered potting area to six world class structures. The covered guest parking is at the foot of a massive banyan tree.
Walking along the Trex ‘discovery trail,’ which circumnavigates the entire property, toward the sound of plunging water, take you to the private yoga studio, an area larger than most public studios on the island. A professional grade yoga studio, it borders over 400 linear feet of jungle gorge views. The views from this solid ipe wood upper platform are breathtaking and include views of nearby waterfalls, the ocean and a jungle ravine.
The front deck is situated along the furthest point of the cliff that borders the eastern property line. The back area has a spa complete with open air showers and a large, carved stone, soaking tub. There is even a cozy learning/meditation loft with spectacular equestrian and ocean views. The flooring and sidewalls are finished in a rare Alaskan cedar.
Once you depart the yoga studio and its unobstructed ocean and coastal views, you can walk the Trex ‘discovery trail’ again up to an ancient 80 foot tall Ficus tree. Continue your journey along the paralleling walk along the neighboring equestrian property until you come to an elevated 200 square foot yurt meditation platform.
A custom fabricated swim/spa is placed on the edge of the ravine that offers coastal ocean views and unparalleled waterfall viewing. The spa is nestled into a large blue rock and natural boulder mound festooned with various native plants and flowers. Directly adjacent to the swim spa is the one-of-a-kind study and learning center finished in exotic hand scraped acacia, ohia posts and custom mango wood cabinetry with rainforest marble surfaces throughout. The lanai is made of natural quartzite.
The study, which is the ultimate home office, is bordered by its’ own private spa and custom deck area meticulously accented with white coral retaining walls. The spa deck allows private viewing of the jungle gardens below and waterfall views. On the opposite side of the study, your very own rainbow gum eucalyptus forest abounds.
The meticulously crafted main home blends into the natural environment with large windows and natural materials including mago, ohia and koa wood tones throughout. The first level, includes the kitchen (with Miele appliances) and living area as well as the master bedroom and bath, both featuring ocean views. The second floor of the main house offers two additional bedroom suites with lanais, as well as an outcrop over the staircase that is perfect for reading, and a large bathroom.
Additional structures on the property include the point house which serves as guest accommodations. Here, guests can wake up to ocean sunrises and the moon ascending from the ocean. This structure is an interesting Günther design with no right-angled walls. It offers a master bath complete with a unique quartzite stone plunge and warm exotic mahogany wood finishes throughout. The lanai has its own private Jacuzzi spa.
The property includes a golf tee where you can hit biodegradable golf balls off the bluff to the ocean.
Just beyond the meditation hale is a paperbark tree and Cook Pine forest. Within this area are seven custom-designed, gated and fenced animal habitats. Each enclosure has its’ own custom-made Bangkirai hardwood and stainless steel gate and walls finished in lava rock. Two of the habitats are bordered by a 60-foot tall bamboo stand with a red stone Buddha nestled onto its’ blue rock stone pedestal.
The property features organic soil, trees, native plants and clean water to sustain them, including a private well. It also has a new 3,000-gallon water tank, primary and backup pump systems.
